This is the beginning of one great big mess.
WHAT? IT'S NOT MY MONEY...IS IT?
The stimulus package that was recently approved has a big fat loophole in
it. The legislation, which would send tax credits of $500 per worker
and $1,000 per couple, expressly disqualifies nonresident aliens, but
it would allow people who don't have Social Security numbers to be
eligible for the checks.
Undocumented immigrants who are not
eligible for a Social Security number can file tax returns with an
alternative number. A House-passed version of the economic recovery
bill and one making its way through the Senate would allow anyone with
such a number, called an individual taxpayer identification number, to
qualify for the tax credits.
In
a nutshell, someone who is in this country illegally. Brilliant! In
February of 2008 which was when we had our last stimulus package (which
obviously stimulated nothing since our economy is going further in the
toilet as I write this), there was a provision to have strict
requirements to cash the checks. Namely, a social security number.
Here is where the republicans got it together. Not one republican voted for passage of the bill.
You
would think that they would learn that this kind of plan doesn't work.
In this plan, they hold back tax cuts from the wealthy (who pay the
majority of the taxes for this country to begin with) and businesses
that have a chance to jump start this anemic economic situation. It has
disaster written all over it with a capital D.
ALL IS NOT LOST
Throwing
money at a economic problem doesn't solve the problem. You save, spend
prudently, and invest wisely. Of this we can be certain as the Lord's
children:
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. (Psalm 34:10)
We have to understand that the world is the Lord's:
If
I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the
fulness thereof. And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver
thee, and thou shalt glorify me. (Psalm 50:13,15)
The
last place we need to look to fix this country is the government. They
got us into this predicament. We need to appeal to the Owner, pray for
mercy and goodness to once again fall upon this land and trust that
He'll be true to His word. In the meantime, we stand against those who
are getting in the way of that through prayer and our voices being
lifted up for righteousness and Truth. Easy? Nope. But I stand and
believe on this:
With men this is impossible; but with God, all things are possible. (Matt. 19:26b)
